ESS 2025: Understanding storage, making better decisions — our review of Smarter E

NOVUM can look back on a successful participation in ESS Europe 2025 as part of Smarter E. The focus: intelligent battery monitoring with the NOVUM Storage Guard, in-depth advice on stationary energy storage systems and numerous discussions with decision-makers from industry, energy supply and mobility.

Full halls, fully charged batteries, and strong interest in intelligent battery monitoring: The Smarter E Europe 2025 – especially ESS Europe – was once again a great success for us at NOVUM. We were particularly delighted to welcome a delegation from Toyota with Takashi Nakamura, Hiromasa Ishii, Yasushi Saito, and Kenji Yamanaka (from left to right), who made the long journey from Japan. For us, this was a clear sign of how widespread the interest in reliable battery diagnostics has become – from automotive manufacturers to municipal utilities.

Storage Guard: Monitoring that Matters

At the center of our exhibition presence was the NOVUM Storage Guard, our comprehensive, manufacturer-independent solution for continuous monitoring of stationary battery systems. And it resonated. Many visitors were eager to learn how the Storage Guard can be used to transparently and cost-effectively assess the condition, performance, and lifespan of batteries, regardless of the system or manufacturer.

“The exhibition showed that our Storage Guard is in the right place at exactly the right time: technological maturity meets market demand.”
- Philip Fuchs, COO

Our flagship product impressed not only with its technical depth, but also because it clearly helps secure investments and increase returns. How can systems be compared? Where is the economic advantage? And how can operators detect early on whether a system is truly delivering what it promises?

The fact that so many decision-makers approached us with these questions shows: those who work with NOVUM aren’t just looking for data, they are looking for clarity they can build on.

From Selection to Integration: NOVUM as a Trusted Consultant

A key focus this year was on consulting. More and more companies are seeking expert guidance even before purchasing a storage system. This is where we at NOVUM, with over ten years of experience, play an important role – manufacturer-independent, technology-agnostic, and always focused on identifying the solution that truly fits the business model.

“With over 10 years of BESS experience, we now know very well exactly what to look for when selecting a battery system, and are happy to support our customers right from the start.”
- Mandy Schipke, CEO

The growing demand for early-stage consulting tells us one thing in particular: batteries are no longer just a technical choice. They are long-term strategic investments.

That our customers rely on us in this area is both a responsibility and a motivation. Developing sustainable storage strategies together – that’s what makes the difference.

Back to Business with Momentum

Whether with existing customers, new partners, or project developers with concrete plans – our booth was the setting for many focused technical discussions, about supplier selection, system integration, and shared goals. About battery systems that last longer, are better understood, and perform more reliably.

Many of these conversations started with a technical question and once again highlighted how essential deep understanding is for the success of our customers. That’s what drives us at NOVUM. Technical solutions are everywhere, but they only become great when they are precisely tailored to the use case.

Thank you to our partners and visitors, to everyone interested in smarter storage monitoring – and of course to our amazing team. You were fantastic.
